Who would have thought that from this three basic ingredients, which are flour, potatoes and egg, can create such a wonderful dish. A traditional Polish dumpling recipe , which is very often served on Polish tables. A really delicious way for a simple dinner that goes with various toppings such as bacon and onion, or in a vegetarian version with fried onion, cream or your favorite sauce 🙂

Ingredients:

1 kg of potatoes
230 g flour
1 egg
flour for sprinkling
salt
water

Procedure:

Wash the potatoes, peel, cut into smaller pieces and cook. Knead them with a potato masher and allow to cool. Add flour and egg and mix all ingredients. The potato paste should stick slightly, but if the potatoes were watery then add more flour, but not too much because the potato will come out chewy. In the meantime, prepare a large pot with salted water and boil. Divide the dough into 6 parts and roll out each part into a 1 cm diameter roller, surrounding it in flour. Roll the roller slightly and divide it into smaller, oblique pieces. To a boiling water (on low heat so that the water only boils lightly) pour batter dumplings carefully putting them into the water. When they are at the bottom, gently stir with a wooden spoon so that it will not stick. When it goes up, cook for another 2-3 minutes and transfer using a slotted spoon to a plate. Repeat until all dough is cook. Serve with fried bacon and onions. If you want to leave the dumplings the other day, add oil to them and mix gently so that the oil covers all the dumplings (without oil, one big potato dumpling will form). It also taste great when fried in a pan.

Enjoy!
