Naan bread is a simple and tasty bread of Indian origin that goes well with curry dishes, tikka masala or with the usual additions such as coriander. Most importantly, the bread is prepared in a pan, not in the oven, which gives it a characteristic look and taste. A great dish for both adults and children 🙂

Ingredients:

1 cup warm water
2 tablespoon honey
1 pack dry yeast
3 ½ cups flour
¼ yogurt
2 teaspoon of salt
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 large egg
4 tablespoon butter
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon of chopped cilantro

Procedure:

Combine warm water and honey, stir until honey has dissolved. Add the water mixture into the mixing bowl. Sprinkle the yeast and stir quickly. Allow to sit for 10 minutes until the yeast becomes foamy. Add flour, yoghurt, salt, baking powder and egg. Mix until the dough is smooth. Remove the dough from the mixing bowl and shape it into a ball using your hands. Grease the mixing bowl with oil. Place the dough ball back and cover with a towel. Place into a warm place. Allow to rise for an hour. While waiting for the dough to rise, heat the butter into a small saucepan over a medium heat. Add garlic and cook for 1-3 minutes until fragrant. Remove from the heat. Strain and discard the garlic. Set aside. Once dough is ready, place into a floured surface. Cut the dough into 8 seperate pieces. Roll each dough into a ball using hands. Place into a floured surface and roll out each dough into a circle or oval-shape in ¼ inch thick. Brush each dough lightly with the garlic-infused butter on both sides. Heat a large pan over a medium heat. Add a piece of dough and cook for 1-2 minutes or until the dough begins to bubble and the color changes into golden brown. Flip the dough and cook the other side. Place the naan into a plate and cover with a towel. Repeat the process for the remaining dough. Cover the naan bread with a towel until ready to serve to not make it dry. Serve with chopped fresh cilantro.

Enjoy!
